Product Description
Set in the ’90s during the Los Angeles riots, this contemporary noir follows a struggling real estate agent who’s cooked up a plan to make a big pot of money. Hanging around a Narcotics Anonymous meeting she finds a former addict struggling through the last stages of AIDS. Offering him support, she mortgages her home and uses the money to buy property in his name. Property she insures. As she waits for him to die so she can collect her big payday, she begins to suspect he may not be everything she thought.

10,000 words. Approximate reading time: 29 - 41 minutes.

"The Beneficiary did not turn out exactly like I assumed it would. There were quite a few unexpected twists that will make the story hard to put down. Like any short story though – I sure wish it had been longer! But I really think, in this case, length isn’t always better. It leaves off exactly where it should without any unnecessary filler fluff. The Beneficiary is a well recommended read." Allison, Well-Read Reviews

"The twists and turns were subtle, and in some cases, not obvious until you read the perfect ending. I like the way that this story came together, I was second guessing myself the entire time, wondering just what exactly was going to happen, and again, it is one of those stories that I can’t comment too much on, because then I will give it away!" 1 out of 5 stars Not even worth the .89 I paid.   August 26, 2010

I really dont consider myself much of a book critic but man this was bad. The plot actually wasnt horrible but it was so poorly developed that it was almost like reading an outline of a junior high school lit project. No character development, no depth or background and no subtly, clear what the outcome would be. Really a very poor read.

Just as I was getting into the story--it was over. It is literally a 10 minute read!!

what a great way to pass a few minutes. this is a short novella, but don't let that fool you. it keeps u turning the pages. and the ending is pretty clever. can't wait to read more from this author.

This author has talent. He puts this story together, ties up the ends with no excess fluff, and makes it work. Who needs to read about what this character had for lunch and what she wore, etc? Good twist to the story.

This was a total piece of garbage. Novella my behind, I read it in ten minutes and was sorely disappointed. Even for .99 I expected a lot more. Won't make that mistake again.
