Product Description A brilliant, chilling series debut, featuring a Charleston real estate agent who loves old houses-and the secret histories inside them.
Practical Melanie Middleton hates to admit she can see ghosts. But she-s going to have to accept it. An old man she recently met has died, leaving her his historic Tradd Street home, complete with housekeeper, dog-and a family of ghosts anxious to tell her their secrets.
Enter Jack Trenholm, a gorgeous writer obsessed with unsolved mysteries. He has reason to believe that diamonds from the Confederate Treasury are hidden in the house. So he turns the charm on with Melanie, only to discover he-s the smitten one...
It turns out Jack-s search has caught the attention of a malevolent ghost. Now, Jack and Melanie must unravel a mystery of passion, heartbreak-and even murder.

Interesting September 4, 2010 The Werewolf Mage (Georgia, USA) Just by reading the summary I found this to be an interesting book. I've had an interest in ghosts for a while and I actually found myself wanting to take The House on Tradd Street home.
Even from the first chapter, the spirits are sprinkled here and there throughout the book. From a young woman pushing a swing in the first few pages to the hanging pirate and his ghostly crew trying to cut him down, you can definitely enjoy the ghosts for what they are. Though aside from three, they do not make the story. I liked that the most I think of the book. Since Melanie can see things others cannot I was thrilled there were more than just the main ghosts.
Like many of the characters in Karen White's books, there were some I completely loved. I liked Jack's personality the best. He can be bitingly sarcastic but also has his own demons and his own soft spots. Melanie however was very hard for me to like. She seemed like a complete witch throughout most of the book and I found it hard to read sometimes because I just wound up rolling my eyes at her and her attitude.
The mystery that drives the plot though, was captivating. The grandfather clock, the fountain that did not work, the evil presence reeking of decay, all were done in ways that I could overlook Melanie and her attitude, difficult as it was.
Too annoyed to feel engaged with the haunting August 30, 2010 India Ballinger (San Marcos, CA, USA) I was interested in reading a book with a Charleston setting, and the promise of a haunted house was even more intriguing. However, the annoying protagonist and predictable love story with cliched characters destroyed any semblance of enjoyment I could have gained from the historical references and atmospherics. Too bad authors feel they need to throw a love story at us when they don't know the first thing about how to write one. How many times do we have to endure the excruciating dialogue and simpering behaviors of a heroine who insists on hating a gorgeous man who, it is patently obvious to the reader, will eventually win her over against these protestations? And why is the gorgeous talented man wasting his time on such a blatantly high-maintenance "project" who isn't worthy or even likable in any sense of the word? Does any writer think they can tell that pathetic story better than Margaret Mitchell? Tiresome and distracting in a novel that could have easily risen to literary levels.
Worth the read but a little slow to start August 28, 2010 Mae Doe It took me about one hundred pages to really get into this book. It seemed a little slow, and at times even past the sluggish beginning, would slow down and get hard to get through. However, I actually enjoyed this book and got the next in the series. It is always slow when it's the first in a series, so I understand that. I recommend this book. I have to say that I felt that in the end, with the whole built up part about Marc, it turned out to be extremely anti-climatical in that one respect.
Keep Them Coming! August 22, 2010 ElizabethT1952 (Illinois, USA) I absolutely couldn't put this book down! It was an amazing read, and loved the detailing about Charleston as well. Cannot wait to read the next in the series!
Couldn't put it down! August 17, 2010 C. Lamb After reading "On Folly Beach" I wasn't sure if I wanted to read more of this author's books (Folly beach was good, but not great.) However, I already had "The House on Tradd Street" so I decided to give it a try. Wow! Now I'm a Karen White fan! Yeh there were a couple parts I would've like clarified (see review re: False starts) but all in all it was great and I couldn't put it down! Highly recommended - very entertaining.
